Inspired by the witty and cheerful written reports documenting the lives of Gabe & Meg's cousins, I am going to try to post occasional textual descriptions of events going on in our world. A picture is worth a thousand words, I understand, so I'll keep try to keep it brief.
Gabe was exceptionally excited about the election. The source of his excitement became apparent at the polls, when he grew impatient and asked me when Obama and John McCain were going to arrive. This caused much mirth among nearby voters, but the reality saddened him visibly. He also now expresses some sadness for Hillary and George Bush. For the latter, he may be the only one left in the country.
Gabe watched his first Sesame Street episodes this week when stricken with his first stomach bug. I think he may find this a worthwhile trade-off.
Gabe's fascination (dare I say obsession?) with knights and all things medieval continues unabated since his Halloween debut as Sir Gabe. He frequently sits and pores over a nonfiction book from Nana documenting various aspects of life as a knight. I believe he may have actually absorbed it by osmosis at this point.
With Gabe we are still working on Listening Skills and Containing the Dynamo. One Containing technique is his weekly gymnastics class, which he loves and has actually been asked to move up to a higher level after just a few weeks. Alas, the Listening Skills still fail him even in class, and last week he did not earn the coveted Gymnastics Hand Stamp at the end of class because Miss Christy said he needed to be a better listener. This was the source of some, ah, conflicting feelings and, how shall I say? a minor tantrum.
Meg is toddling merrily about these days. She moves about at an impressive clip, although this means she frequently ends up falling on some well-padded part of her anatomy or banging her poor beleaguered head and nose on some protruding, intervening object. Doors are rapidly proving to be no impediment to Miss Meg. She points now, and refers to everything one and all with a cheerful "Da-DEE"--toys, people, food, interesting objects, and, of course Daddy--they are all Da-DEE.
Meg is enjoying real people food and increasingly spurns the mushed up stuff. Her favorite pastimes include removing paperback books from the shelves and crumpling them; knocking down whatever Gabe is building; making noise with musical instruments (both intended ones and accidental ones); and pulling all objects out of the cabinets in the bathroom (bandaid, anyone?).
Meg's teachers are introducing her to her baby sign language and indeed she willingly makes the sign for "more" on demand, although it is less clear that she has any idea what she means when she does it. As Gabe points out, she frequently shakes her head vigorously "no" even though she means "yes." It is all still coming together in those synapses. She can blow a kiss, when so inclined. I also feel obliged to report that she can now laugh vigorously and enthusiastically while still holding the pacifier in her teeth. Not exactly a resume skill, that.
Respectfully submitted,Jenn
